THE RED HAT SERIES

The Red Hat Series marks my return to work with a model for the first time in a number of years. It was a welcome change because, although I like working in a landscape mode, it gets boring with endless repetition. This series is just getting started and I don't know yet what the story line will be but I do hope to have a connected series that tells a story. If you notice the colors, they seem different from my usual and there is a reason for that. I am trying to capture the sense of loneliness and isolation so prominent in the work of Edward Hopper. In doing that I am making as much use as I can of his color palette, which is outside my norm. Let's see how it goes.

To try to capture Hopper's mood, and the era in which he painted, I asked the model to find some old style clothes to go with the scenes and the color scheme. She outdid herself with the hat, dress, and shoes.
